This course is a collaboration with Wael Muhammad, a woodworker, telecommunications engineer, and photographer. With a deep respect for his cultural heritage and a commitment to preserving traditional woodworking techniques, Wael tries to create beautiful and functional pieces using time-honored methods. Wael’s projects are characterized by his use of traditional design motifs, such as geometric patterns. He employs a variety of techniques, including inlay, marquetry, wood turning to create intricate and eye-catching designs that reflects the rich cultural heritage of his craft.
Kumiko woodworking is a traditional Japanese woodworking technique that involves the intricate assembly of small wooden pieces to create beautiful geometric patterns. This course is an introduction to teach students the basics of the traditional Japanese art.
COURSE TOPICS:
- Learn the history of Kumiko woodworking.
- Get introduced to the tools and materials needed for the craft.
- Learn how to select and prepare wood.
- Learn to cut and assemble Kumiko patterns
- using the traditional methods of joinery.
- Learn about measuring, marking, cutting
- and shaping wood, and sanding and finishing.
- Create a simple Kumiko pattern, the Asa-no-ha Kumiko pattern and take it home with you!
COURSE DURATION:
- Total of 3 sessions 3 hrs each ( total of 9 hrs).
- Sessions are over 2 weeks.
- Morning round from 10 am till 1 pm.
- Evening round from 6 pm till 9 pm.
INVESTMENT & BENEFITS:
- Trainees will be part of the online community where they can share progress, knowledge and get support.
- Maximum of 7 participants per group.
- No prior experience is required.

- 50% refund if cancelled more than 1 week before the course start date.
- 20% refund if cancelled less than 1 week before the course start date.
